20.05.2020 Breast cases: Puncture #2 and Surgical Follow-up #1
Today I had a very lean 50 yr old patient that came with a noticeable lump in her breast which she detected herself. I was already thinking about how we would get a mammogram and then let alone hope she would receive treatment because her family was very poor. Clinical examination showed a very well defined, mobile and painful lump - prognostically this is not bad. Ultrasound showed the following image and the step with which I proceeded:
Ultrasound guided puncture of the lump
Later that same day, my first surgical breast abscess patient came in for follow up. She had a bad case of mastitis puerpuralis and an abscess with several hundred mililiters of pus about one month after giving birth here via C-section. I put in a drain in a small surgical procedure on April 17 as we were not successful with conservative treatment. She stayed several days post-op before being discharged. She came today and was pain free and able to breastfeed normally on both sides. Her case would never have gotten so bad if she had come in sooner with her symptoms but many, like her, try with various home remedies first which often does not solve the issue. Anyways I was happy to see this result. I've posted an edited picture below. She has very large breasts and it is now back to normal size, before it was twice this size!
